We're a community group who's incredibly proud of the major investments the Town of Easton has been making in our schools, sidewalks, roads, and other public facilities. In particular, we're eagerly looking forward to using the newly expanded Library when it finally becomes available.
We strongly believe that, with some judicious planning and little or no
additional cost, we can link together many of these facilities with a network of
designated routes
which will allow Easton seniors and children to
all get to and from the Library
safely
-- whether on foot, on bikes, in wheelchairs, or by car.
We believe that the Library should be easy and safe to get to from as many locations in Town as possible, and we're committed to making this vision a reality.
Most of the obstacles we face are minor. In a few places, we need to improve
the safety of existing intersections, but
with all of the investments made recently in sidewalks, curb cuts, and traffic control,
most of the necessary work is already behind us.
Indeed, until recently we thought the rest would be easy. We just had to wait for the Library to finally start building the designs and plans that have been approved by every relevant local and state authority -- most recently at Town Meeting in 2004.
Unfortunately, we learned in the summer of 2005 that for some unknown reason, these approved plans are being changed in ways which drastically affect the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, residents, and drivers going to, from, or anywhere near the Library.
